First Verse
In this verse I get personal and talk about the hardships that goes on within my family. Some have lied about who I come from and sugarcoated a lot of vital information that has helped me grow ever since I knew. It has left parts of my soul essentially damaged to know all this time I was trying to be something I'm not. I walk with a different sense of purpose with life which has made me misunderstood. Yet in the end I still feel a part of them fears the power I possess. I'm never the one that starts drama usually I stick to myself and don't bother anybody, hence the line where I say, "I am never triggered but the gun they keep handing me".
Hook
I know life happens and shit gets rough, but I promise you one thing, letting down your guard and letting go of the light within you should never be an option. You should never dim your light for the sake of others to please. Shining in darkness is the biggest flex anyone can do. Most people when they feel those dark times come up or those dark thoughts they refuse to shine and proceed to ignore their desire out of the comfort of others. It is only in those moments of opportunity does the universe give you a chance to be greater than what you are in the present. Don't let fear dictate your life! How could you know what you're capable of if you allow fear to conquer your mind?
Second Verse
This verse I dive deeper into shining even in the darkness. Only receiving love when your down so the same people that kicked you down can lift you up again and be the hero in your eyes. This is key to shining your light in darkness, having no attachment at all to the circumstances in your life and having a better understanding that everything set in your path is for you to grow and evolve past your physical body. The love I do receive now is always a hidden cost behind it that I don't see. Like giving up my time or energy in any way shape or form. It is the same habit that I need to rise above so that way the roles can be reversed, and I will be the one that they are begging for. Giving the light to everybody always makes someone else want a piece of you, that's why I prefer to give that light back to myself and love me instead since I know what's best for me better than anyone.
Bridge
This bridge is similar to hold on to your light in the sense that I talk about being the light in everyone's life. Being the light meaning the good even when the whole world is displaying dark, like the moon shining in the sky at nighttime. I understand that life can be hard and the comfortable route is always presented to us, but when you look at life from the lens of love you begin to have a better understanding of why everything is the way it is. Connecting to your heart in various amounts of ways almost makes you untouchable in the matrix because anything that is set to slow you down, can actually speed up whatever you are chasing in life. This is why there is so much hate in the world, it's because how powerful love actually is. Very cliche to say I know but like I said in the song "They can't touch you when connected to your heart". Do not let the hate of the world drown you into being selfish and filled with pride, allow the love to shine that light that is within you.
In conclusion
The main intent behind the song is simply me being real with the listener. I know sometimes life is hard, shit happens, and you end up being afraid of certain things because of what they could potentially do to you or for you. But you can't let the thoughts of your ego dictate how you are meant to live. Everyone needs the light even in the darkest times so don't be afraid to shine your light! Let this song inspire you to shine your light within even in the darkest times. Let this song serve as an example of what happens when you let go of the darkness of your past and shine the light on the bright future that is ahead!
